JF allows two athletes per weight/nation in all World Championships

The International Judo Federation Technical Committee meeting held in Tokyo in the last days of December 2009 decided that starting in 2010, two athletes per weight category are allowed to represent a nation.
The suggestion was made by the IJF President, Mr. Marius Vizer. The decision is valid for World Championships Senior, Junior and Cadets.

“We noticed that many good athletes had to stay at home. There were full generations not allowed to compete in the World Championhips. Take alone the case of -48kg in Japan, with Rioko Tani reigning for such a long time and also what can happen to the heavy weights in France with Tedy Rinner supremacy”, says IJF Head Sports Director Mr. Vladimir Barta.

Mr. Barta also gave examples of top athletes struggling inside their countries to qualify like the case of Alexander Mikhailin and Tamerlan Tmenov, in Russia.

REFEREEING: Decision of the IJF Executive Committee in Rotterdam validated at the World Championship Juniors Paris 2009

Introduction
The IJF’s wish is to defend fundamental judo values.
Within this scope IJF particularly devotes itself to preserve and develop education, physic and mental trumps of Judo.
« Judo is a physic and mental education system ».

From the other side, IJF would not like to change Refereeing rules during Olympic qualification period. For this reason it will proceed in this sphere with necessary experimentations and their testing before the first January 2010.
The experimentations have been tested during the World Championship Juniors 2009 in Paris and they will continue at the following IJF competitions: Grand Prix of Abu Dhabi on Nov. 20 and 21 2009, Grand Prix of Qingdao (China) on Nov. 28 and 29 2009, World Cup of Suwon (Korea) on Dec. 4 and 5 2009, and Big Slam of Tokyo (Japan) on Dec. 11, 12 and 13 2009. At the end of this one, a decision concerning these rules will be taken.
