Dutch judo Olympic champion Anton Geesink, the first non-Japanese to win a world judo championship, has died yesterday 27th august 2010 at the age of 76.
Geesink shocked the Japanese by winning a world championship title in 1961, the first non-Japanese to do so, and won a gold medal at the Tokyo Olympics in 1964.
He won further world championship titles in 1964 and 1965 and a total of 21 European judo championship titles and was several times Dutch judo champion.
“A giant has just passed away,” the International Judo Federation said on its website, adding that Geesink’s work to promote the sport had helped make it universally popular.
Born in the central Dutch city of Utrecht, Geesink was a 10th dan judoka.

I have seen many still photographs of Anton Geesink's final of the Open 1964 Olympics but had never seen video footage until quite recentl. A true ledgend of the sport of judo, he will be sorely missed by many
I like to read Bodybuilding blogs to me true bodybuilding means doing whatever possible to get my muscles to increase in size such as eating plenty of high protein sources and using the best anabolic Steroids UK since my natural growth has plateaued. I'm of course always looking for the best sites to Buy Steroids so if you have any recommendations please email them to me. I of course think it's quite important for steroid using bodybuilders to learn as much as they can about using anabolic steroids as safely as possible. My own anabolic steroid cycling has been far from perfect so I have made it my priority to help other bodybuilders before they make any of my mistakes. Working out at the gym should of course be fun. If it isn't fun then you won't want to dedicate enough of your time to your bodybuilding and steroid program. Most trainers would suggest a minimun of three workouts a week to ensure great gains and steady strength progress is made with your chosen bodyuilding routine. I hope to see you all at the gym this week pushing plenty of heavy weights and taking your Dianabol tabs with your high protein breakfast.
I couldn't agree more, this guy will surely be missed.
After all, he lived a life we could only dream for.
May he rest in peace and my prayers to the family and friends who surely misses him right now… I agree, this man did so much and contributed so much in the world and he deserves our respect. We will idolize you forever Anton Geesink. Thank you for all the inspiration. Farewell.
THe man is dead but his legacy will live on, as Judo goes to the future.
